You've just been comically SLAPPED!

Here are a few tips on how to keep your band together (Inspite of it's members)

Hey Guys!

I encourage everyone to share this with anyone they know who are in a band, WANT to be a part of a band or have recently been a part of a band breaking-up.

Here goessss!

Soooo, have being in several bands both popular and not so popular, all independent non the less and I get to see first hand how hard it is to work and KEEP the band both functioning and together. Let me tell you this... IT IS NOT EASY! You know that saying, "only the strong survive"? It is beyond the truth!  Check me out...

The ONLY way a band can survive is through GOOD TEAMWORK! A band full of talented ppl will go to the hills of shits without it. If you are going thru that phase with your band where you don't know what to do next, whether you should stay or leave, whether you don't think you are all fitting well together,  I hope that this blog will help you hold your band together, whatever it is!

I've gotten help from website to help organize these tips/steps and here is what I gathered :

*MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN YOUR BAND IS INTO THE SAME TYPE OF MUSIC
If you got a drummer who is into R&B but a guitar player who likes to play punk, you have a real problem there! lol

*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*

First of all Band meetings at least TWICE a year is NECESSARY! A neutral location is advised as this will help everyone feel at ease with everything. While meeting it is important not to be distracted so having them at your rehearsal location is a no! also no loved ones and instruments allowed as they can be MAJOR distractions.
Having these meetings is a good time to discuss about new songs, highlighting the good and the bad in past performances, promo ideas and brainstorming was that you can improve collectively.

Camaraderie is EXTREMELY important in a band so if you can find something fun to do after you meet to blow off steam that would be awesome.

It is extremely important for a band to have COMMON GOALS and to revisit them from time to time. What kind of band are you? Are you a cover band? Do you do originals? What type of music do you consider yourself to play? How often would you like to play in front of ppl from a weekly to monthly basis? Is there a certain style/ genre of music that you are aiming for? Are there enough opportunities to perform in your local communities or are you looking to branch out?

COMMUNICATE! VOICE YOUR OPINIONS! It is impossible to have and keep a GOOD band without these two things! Make sure EVERY member share their views no matter how important or unimportant they are to the rest of the group. "one of the main reasons ppl leave bands is because they often feel the rest of the band isn't listening to them."

Silence is a way to show you agree sometimes... Try not to remain silent when you should be voicing your disagreement. "A healthy band is one that promotes discussion and communication. An unhealthy band has festuring problems that will eventually lead to a bands demise."

Try to work out all problems mentioned through a band members concern. And if you cant completely fix a problem, thhen try to come up with some kind of compromise so that everyone is somewhat happy.

DO NOT TRY TO TAKE CONTROL OVER EVERYONE! "If one person alone makes the decisions and bosses others around, it'll end end up in a mess. No one likes an all out dictator breathing on their neck."

Do things as a band outside of practicing and performing. Go out and have FUN! this is how you build stronger bonds and chemistry as a band. You shouldn't only be bandmates, you ALL should be the best of friends TOGETHER, too! ;)

BREAKING UP IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST SOLUTION! Sometimes you just need a break. But make sure u all come up with an agreeable date to start practicing again.

REMEMBER THAT A BAND IS A SINGLE ENTITY AND NOT A GROUP FULL OF PPL! While together, remember to put the needs of the group before your own.

HAVING A PROBLEM? IDENTIFY IT! Sometimes band problems are huge. Try to break them down in chunks that are managable. Is a gf attending rehearsals and giving her opinion? Does someone in the band have and alcohole or a drug problem? Are band members starting to hate the style of music you're playing? Is the band leader treating others in the band as inferiors?? TALK IT OUT! cHANGE SOME THINGS! AGREE ON SOMETHING!

There is so much more to talk about in this topic!!!!! I will post more tips and tricks later. In the meantime, comment, subscribe, email me questions and I'll be glad to make a post and or respond! PEACE!

Ron D's special tribute to Detroit's late great J Dilla

Background Of Ron D.? Sure!

Ronald Allen Williams, better known by his stage name Ron.D was born on July 9,1986. Born on the East side of Detroit but raised on the West side, Ron. D was the product of a single mother household by his loving mother Johnny Williams. He was the youngest of 4 children. His 2 older sisters, Colina and Tana along with his older brother Reese were very influential to him during his upbringing. Tana and Reese now watch over him from heaven. During the grade school years, Ron. D attended Winship and Cervany Middle Schools.

At the age of 14, Ron. D started rapping after being inspired by his older bother and mentor Reese as well as Chicago rapper J. Seuss. In 2001 Ron.D took his passion for rap further and formed a rap group with 4 of his childhood friends called "Donizm". Donizm went on to release two mixtapes, "Get Doe (2003)" & "Dead Presidents (2004)". The group disassembled shortly after. If life in Detroit couldn't get any worse, Ron.D's biggest influence, his big brother Reese, passed away. Feeling like he couldn't move on Ron. D dropped out of school and soon after moved to Atlanta in 2005.

While in Atlanta, Ron.D hooked up with artists from all over the United States to form the rap group "The Empire". The Empire released two mixtapes "We don't strike back we strike first (2005)" & "Hate it or Love it (2006)". After having some personal and managerial issues with The Empire Ron.D, returned to Detroit in 2007 with little to no hope in pursuing a musical career.

In 2011, an almost 4 year break from music, Ron.D was ready to jump back in and give rapping all he has. He teamed up with the legendary producer/engineer P. Gruv and became a part of the J Dilla "the Rebirth of Detroit" project. With this new relationship Ron. D decided that he would either tackle the rap game head on or he would never touch the mic again. This new lease on life birthed his highly anticipated debut solo mix tape "Now or Neva." You can now experience his life and love on every track...

This morning of February 9, 2013 at midnight, Detroit's own rapper mc Ron D dropped not one, but TWO exclusive videos with a special tribute to J Dilla (Jay Dee), a very influential record producer who emerged from the underground Hip-Hop scene of Detroit, MI in the 90's.

Let creativity speak for itself.

So I looked up the definition for the phrase, "Speak for yourself" and it simply said (and I quote from dictionary.cambridge.org) "something you say to someone to tell them that the opinion that they have just expressed is not the same as your opinion"
After I read that definition, my mind immediately started thinking of music, videography, filmography, art, design... CREATIVITY! More importantly for me, MUSIC. The way it is written, and the way it is felt. The personality of the song versus the character of the video. Some art, songs, videos and production  have mutual to similar concepts and some don't.

People often think and feel that everything has to match. The lyrics with the personality of the singer, the video with the song, when actually each should have liberty to have their own opinions and personalities!

Prior to the 1980's (When MTV hit the scene) There was no such thing as a "music video". They were merely talkies, soundies and shorts! Read this post in its entirty.. Then you'll understand and maybe even agree with my opinion of why I feel each independent entity should have the liberty to Let their creativity speak for itself.

In the early 1900's many musical short films were produced. Ya'll know Warner Bros, right??? Well, they produced alot of those short films and it's because of them that many bands, vocalists and dancers were featured. RIGHT after the musical short films started popping off, animation artist started producing sing-along short cartoons, then called "Screen Songs", which invited the audiences to sing along with the popular songs by "following the bouncing ball" (which is similar to our modern day karaoke machine.) The early Walt Disney cartoons featured several interpretations of classical pieces. Cartoons like "Fantasia" were BUILT around music, even tho animation in itself has NOTHING to do with it! Same thing for Warner Bros (Remember Looney Tunes???)

Unfortunately I have to end this post now because I have to go to work... But If I had to leave you with a few words, itd be this: Don't be afraid to mix up concepts, throw some Ideas around and allow your true self to BE creative! because when you're REALLY good at it, It makes history... So much so that we need national networks to broadcast it. How do you think we got BET, MTV & VH1?!?

From one atom to another,
Rachel

I have the questions, you have the answers.

How valuable is music to you? Do you engage in music in your everyday life? What use do you make of music? Do you ever wonder or have you asked yourself, "Why do I listen to music?"
